Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs

Looking for answers about aircraft ferry services, pilot logistics, or international deliveries? Below are some of the most common questions we receive.

What is aircraft ferrying?

An aircraft ferry service involves relocating an aircraft from one location to another by flying it—typically for delivery, repositioning, maintenance, or sale. At Craver Aeronautics, we offer trusted domestic and international ferry services for single- and twin-engine aircraft.

What types of aircraft do you ferry?

We specialize in ferrying:

  • Single-engine piston aircraft (e.g., Cessna, Piper, Cirrus)

  • Twin-engine piston aircraft

  • Vintage, tailwheel, or experimental aircraft

  • Light turboprops and jets (on request)

If you're unsure whether your aircraft qualifies, contact us with the details. See our Aircraft Directory page showing some of the models we can tackle, or dig through our Portfolio which shows some of our past work.

How much does it cost to ferry an aircraft?

Costs depend on:

  • Aircraft type & performance

  • Route and distance

  • Fuel stops, permits, and international overflight fees

  • Time of year (weather, daylight, demand)

Another ferry pilot already has insurance- do I need to provide insurance?

Yes. Aircraft must be insured for the duration of the ferry flight. We can work with your existing policy provider or assist in arranging temporary coverage if needed. Unfortunately, that claim is very common and a misguided statement; please read our article on Why Non-Owners Insurance Doesn’t Cover Aircraft Ferrying.

As you shop around to find a best fit for your needs, ask yourself - if my own insurance company finds it too risky to cover them, should they be trusted with flying the aircraft?

What documentation is required?

Typical documentation includes:

  • Airworthiness certificate

  • Registration (bill of sale and application for domestic, fly-wire for international)

  • Operating handbook

  • Current maintenance logs

  • Special flight permits (if required)

We’ll guide you through every step of the paperwork process.

How far in advance should I schedule a ferry flight?

We recommend at least 2 weeks’ notice, but we can often accommodate shorter timeframes depending on pilot and route availability.

Do you offer international ferry services?

Yes! We offer aircraft ferry services across North America, South America, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Pacific, and oceanic crossings. With global contacts, our team handles customs coordination, permits, fuel arrangement, route planning, maintenance, and may solicit insurance policies at your request.

Can I accompany the pilot during the ferry flight?

In many cases, yes—depending on the aircraft configuration, weight and balance, insurance, and regulatory approvals. Also, we don’t charge any additional fee for instruction services given on the trip. Contact us directly to discuss.

What if my aircraft isn’t currently airworthy?

We offer consulting and coordination to help get your aircraft ready for flight, including:

  • Maintenance coordination

  • Ferry permits

  • Route planning for low-risk repositioning

Do you offer type-transition training?

Yes! We provide in-aircraft training and type-transition support for pilots taking delivery of a new aircraft. Instruction can be combined with the ferry service if requested.

How experienced are your ferry pilots?

Our pilots have logged thousands of flight hours across various makes and models. Safety, regulatory compliance, and operational precision are the core of every ferry mission we fly.
